Motorcycle Hire
So you want to rent, or hire, a motorcycle? Unfortunately, this is not as simple as renting a car – those places are everywhere from airports to remote areas of China; yep, if you need a four-wheeled vehicle, you will not have much trouble in much of the world. Renting, or hiring, a motorcycle is not nearly so simple, but this site is intended to help you more easily find, research and rent a motorcycle in areas in which it is actually possible.
Research your motorcycle hire
The obvious first step in any motorcycle rental will be the research. You will need to find out whether the area you live in or to which you are travelling has any businesses which let motorcycles out for hire. There are many methods for this; one is to turn to an Internet search engine, another would be looking through a travel-oriented website, and yet another idea is to contact motorcycle dealerships in the area and simply asking them – some will know, some won’t.
Motorcycle rental companies are also a good place to look into, but there are a limited number of these and they can be hard to find. In the United States, if you want to hire a bike, EagleRider is the largest and most well-equipped, and they are expanding regularly; checking with them is highly advised when in North America. There are some resources included on this website which will assist you in finding site-specific motorcycle rental companies with whom you should get in touch.
Contact the motorcycle rental company
Once you have found the company from which you will rent a motorcycle, take some time and study the brochure or website and get familiar with what they offer. In the old days, it was usually this point when you would pick up a telephone and make a call to the company. However, in these computer-based times, it is just as easy to send an e-mail or look for a form on the company’s website -sometimes it is easier for the motorcycle rental company to respond with documentation they already have on hand and they can better inform you of estimated costs by knowing more about what you need to get from hiring yourself a motorcycle.
Arrive prepared for renting a motorcycle
One you have made the decision and have arranged to gain access to a motorcycle rental, you should immediately begin thinking of what you will need with you on the ride you have planned (or not, as the case may be). Will you need your helmet? What gear is appropriate for the bike, the weather, the location or any number of other factors? These are questions you absolutely need answers to before you pick up your rented motorcycle.
Arriving at the motorcycle rental company ready to ride will give the person who is letting you hire a motorcycle know that you are serious and will very likely take good care of the bike. This can make the entire experience much easier. Also, be sure to have all the required identification, documentation and whichever payment method you are using with you. If you have this part in order, it will take far less time between your arrival and your departure on the motorbike…and you will be in a much better mood.
Enjoy the Ride
Lastly, now that you have your rental motorcycle and have geared up and mounted the motorbike, get out and have fun. Remember to be mindful of where you are riding, and stay aware of all the varying rules of the road so that you do not run afoul of local law enforcement. When in doubt, though, just relax, be safe, and take the bike you hired on the ride of your life!
